TO ATTEND THE MISSION STREET URBAN DESIGN CHARRETTE
Saturday, November 8, 2008, 8:30AM to 8:00PM
War Memorial Community Center, 6655 Mission Street
So
much has changed over the past 100 years, it’s hard to imagine
how much Mission Street could change over the next 100 years. As
the City moves forward with the update of the Daly City General
Plan, it is important that we pay close attention to how commercial
corridors such as Mission Street can define Daly City, influence
the quality of life here, and provide essential goods and services
to both residents and businesses.
On
November 8, 2008, the City of Daly City, in conjunction with the
San Mateo County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects
(SMAIA) will host an urban design charrette intended to explore
the future of Mission Street. How will Mission Street look in the
future? What opportunities exist for more public open spaces and
an improved pedestrian experience along the street? Also, how can
new development play in revitalizing Mission Street?
To
facilitate discussions such as these, the charrette will use the
vision and design expertise of over 40 SMAIA volunteer architects.
All residents and business owners are invited to participate in
small-group discussions, idea sharing, and development of urban
design concepts that will be facilitated throughout the day by the
architects. Ideas gained from the effort will be considered during
the development of the General Plan policies specifically created
for Mission Street.
The
charrette presents a unique opportunity for you to share ideas and
hopes for the future of Mission Street. As a resident or business
owner, your contribution to the charrette would be invaluable toward
the development of future land use policies along Mission Street.
Persons
interested in participating in the charrette are encouraged to contact
the Planning Division in advance at (650) 991-8033, although doing
so is not a prerequisite to attend. |
